New Delhi: The European Union (EU) has accredited 102 further marine product items from India for exports, making them eligible to produce to the bloc, which is the nation’s second-largest seafood export vacation spot, the Commerce Ministry stated on Tuesday.
With this, a complete of 604 Indian items are listed by the EU.
“The transfer would assist increase India’s seafood exports to the EU. It’s anticipated to assist enhance our seafood exports by about 20 per cent,” an official stated.
In 2023-24, India’s seafood exports to the EU stood at USD 1.1 billion.
The event can also be necessary for diversifying India’s shrimp exports, that are hit arduous by a steep 50 per cent tariff imposed by the US.
The official stated that the itemizing of those items by the EU was a long-pending demand of India. The US, EU, China, Japan, Vietnam and Thailand are main seafood export locations of India.
