Lukla, Climate Delays, and a Blessing from a Dwelling Goddess
As ladies from totally different elements of the world arrived to hike collectively, we bonded nearly immediately—as ladies are likely to do. For everybody within the group, this was their first journey to Nepal, and the thrill was contagious.
For 3 straight days, flights to Lukla have been cancelled because of climate. Fortunately, these days have been scheduled for sightseeing in Kathmandu and attending to know each other—and our information, Dawa Yangjin Sherpa, who we rapidly nicknamed Mama G. As we explored town, we quietly debated backup plans: a grueling two‑day drive on mountain roads, or rerouting your entire hike.
Then one thing surprising occurred.
The Kumari is Nepal’s Dwelling Goddess—a younger woman believed to embody divine female energy. She lives in a centuries‑previous palace at Kathmandu Durbar Sq. and makes uncommon, silent appearances at a window. Even a short glimpse is taken into account a strong blessing.
Throughout our go to, we occurred to be contained in the palace when the Kumari appeared. I’ve visited this palace 3 times over time, and this was the primary time I’d ever seen her. It was a wierd, highly effective second—one which left me considerate and a bit of conflicted. However that’s what journey does finest: it challenges your perspective.
I don’t normally consider in indicators. However the subsequent morning, the skies cleared.
We have been one of many solely planes to land in Lukla that day.
And sure—the touchdown was as dramatic as everybody says.
